Hlawga Wildlife Park
" HLAWGA WILDLIFE PARK "
The Popular Recreational & Educational Park
This Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birds watching and birding tours site Hlawga, a fenced protected area is situated on Yangon – Pyay road, 41 km north of Yangon City. This park is established in 1985 for providing recreational opportunities and knowledge of the nature conservation to the public. The park also serves as a catchments area of Hlawga reservoir, supplying the entire population of Yangon city. The park(N 16˚ 59' and E 96˚ 07') is divided into 3 zones, miniature zoo, wildlife park and buffer zone and than total area is 6.24 sq km which is a small wetland area, comprised of semi-evergreen, mixed deciduous and swamp forests.
179 species of bird have been recorded at This Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birds watching and birding tours site. The highlight species are rare Pale-capped Pigeon, Oriental Darter, Racket-tailed Treepie, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Lesser Racket-tailed Drongo, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Streak-eared Bulbul, Red-vented Bulbul, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Stripe-throated Bulbul with red eye which is only found in South Myanmar, Blcak-crested Bulbul, Black-headed Bulbul, White-crested Laughingthrush, Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrush, Chestnut-capped Babbler, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Ruby-cheeked Sunbird, Spot-billed Duck, Little Ringed Plover, Red-wattled Lapwing and Black-winged Stilt.
In addition one may observe the rare Brow - antlered Deer, Hog Deer, Barking Deer, Sambhur Deer, Wild Boar, Monkey, Jungle Cat and many small mammals in This Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birds watching and birding tours site.
Over 50 species of butterfly, especially the very rare Golden Birdwing Troides aeacus. A variety of plants may also be viewed, and elephant riding is popular in a fenced area of the park.
Recommend to visit all the year round but the best time for bird watching is from October to May.
