Tamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary
TAMANTHI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
The area of this Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birding and birds watching tours site is 2,150.73 sq km and lies on the bank of Chindwin River in upper Chindwin, adjacent of Naga Hill, north part of the Myanmar. Vegetation is characterizes by tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen forests.
This sanctuary is home for 244 bird species. The highlights to be seen include the White-winged Duck, Masked Finfoot, Cinereous Vulture, Black-billed Tern, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Wreathed Hornbill, Slaty-backed Forktail and Plumbeous Water Redstart.
One may also see a range of mammals such as Indochinese Tiger (at least 10 individuals), Wild Elephant (over 100 number), Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Asiatic Dole, Gaur, Sambhur Deer, Barking Deer, Serow, Bear, Wild Boar, Otter and other mammal species in this Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birding and birds watching tours site.
In addition butterfly and insect watching, flora studying, the sailing of boat in the river and streams, and the observation of traditional culture, custom and system of living of local Khamti-Shan and Naga tribes can be made at this Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birding and birds watching tours site.
Recommend to visit all the year round but the best time to bird watch is during November to April.
